I can tell you're extremely talented. The rat and the creature are really well painted. That said, I am confused about what's going on in this picture. I don't necessarily need to understand the story, but I thought that foot was another rat for instance. The picture is just hard to make sense out of because of the overblown light. If you toned that down just a bit, I think this picture would read better. Otherwise it is gorgeous and I really love the design and motion of the creature.

Ha! I looked at this and my first thought was that it reminded me of Marco Bucci. Beautiful colors and textures.

Tiande responds:

Thank you very much! :D

This is really nice gesture work. You have to have a really good understanding of anatomy to exaggerate it so well.

ilikefishing responds:

Thank you!

I really love this. You've packed so much detail into this picture and the simple style works so well with it. Every character here has a story behind them. My favorites are the lonely dog and fashionista. The design of the brick building itself is great too.

This is really beautiful! It makes me feel like I'm lost in a shadowy forest, staring up into the sky. I would have loved to have seen more progress pictures of this one to see how you get those interesting textures,

The perpective in this is so interesting I can't stop looking at it. The different angles from the water, the sand, the box and the people inside make this very unique. Good job!

The-Happy-Triangle responds:

Thank you so much!!! I worked so hard on this piece, it makes me so happy inside to hear that!!

I know exactly what you are saying but SHHH, let's pretend it only took you a couple hours since the result looks effortless and amazing. I've always been drawn to raw almost gestural work over photo-perfect works. In my opinion, they are so much more interesting to look at. I love that you went for that deep blue in the dragon's backplates. That and the desaturated tones of the background were handled very nicely. I think you could have pushed the depth a bit more. I actually like the composition of your proof more than this. I think the foreground makes the dragon look a little more massive. But man, this brush work is awesome. Great job!

AntonFalk responds:

thanks man! actually what i meant is that i overpainted it several times to that rugged look that youre talking about. it started out being very realistic, because i wanted to depict reality correctly before i started altering it (that way it looks more believable). the reason i removed the foreground is because it was very troubling for the lighting situation, because i wanted the light to kind of come from behind the viewer and then fall onto the dragon to drag atention to my focal point :D im sure if i spent more time on it i couldve found a pleasing compromise, but like you said yourself, i dont want it to look to rendered/overworked. but i will definately keep your points in mind for the next piece i do with heavy atmospheric perspective. thank you for your feedback!

Just wow. I'm in love with the amount of detail you've managed to pack into this. It's clear you know your materials because you've chosen and blended together every color on this piece perfectly. Not easy! But the result is warm and beautiful and a reminder that traditional art can more than keep up with digital. The only advice I would have to give is to think a bit more about composition while you are doing the pencils. But honestly I think you have a real contender here. Good luck!

Love it! It's clear you had a real vision for how this piece was going to look and you pulled it off wonderfully. Love the idea that this is some crazy action scene that's been "paused". Love the TRON-esque atmosphere and the juicy rimlight on everything. Not to mention the T-Rex holding friggin pistols. Have you ever seen the short film "Kung Fury"? Because it reminds me of that. And that's awesome.

JohnPolts responds:

I was actually listening to the soundtrack of the movie while making this! 80's synth-wave is just great.

I like this piece a lot. You came up with a cool composition here and I like the clean colors and linework. I like the decision to add a filter in the selfie too. Was that a nod to the idea that Van Gogh might have been colorblind? Anyway, really nice work. Don't forget to add a link here to a WIP. Getting disqualified over something like that would suck.
