Ha! I looked at this and my first thought was that it reminded me of Marco Bucci. Beautiful colors and textures.

Thank you very much! :D

This is really nice gesture work. You have to have a really good understanding of anatomy to exaggerate it so well.

Thank you!

The perpective in this is so interesting I can't stop looking at it. The different angles from the water, the sand, the box and the people inside make this very unique. Good job!

Thank you so much!!! I worked so hard on this piece, it makes me so happy inside to hear that!!

I know exactly what you are saying but SHHH, let's pretend it only took you a couple hours since the result looks effortless and amazing. I've always been drawn to raw almost gestural work over photo-perfect works. In my opinion, they are so much more interesting to look at. I love that you went for that deep blue in the dragon's backplates. That and the desaturated tones of the background were handled very nicely. I think you could have pushed the depth a bit more. I actually like the composition of your proof more than this. I think the foreground makes the dragon look a little more massive. But man, this brush work is awesome. Great job!

AntonFalk responds:

thanks man! actually what i meant is that i overpainted it several times to that rugged look that youre talking about. it started out being very realistic, because i wanted to depict reality correctly before i started altering it (that way it looks more believable). the reason i removed the foreground is because it was very troubling for the lighting situation, because i wanted the light to kind of come from behind the viewer and then fall onto the dragon to drag atention to my focal point :D im sure if i spent more time on it i couldve found a pleasing compromise, but like you said yourself, i dont want it to look to rendered/overworked. but i will definately keep your points in mind for the next piece i do with heavy atmospheric perspective. thank you for your feedback!

Love it! It's clear you had a real vision for how this piece was going to look and you pulled it off wonderfully. Love the idea that this is some crazy action scene that's been "paused". Love the TRON-esque atmosphere and the juicy rimlight on everything. Not to mention the T-Rex holding friggin pistols. Have you ever seen the short film "Kung Fury"? Because it reminds me of that. And that's awesome.

I was actually listening to the soundtrack of the movie while making this! 80's synth-wave is just great.

Wow, you packed a hell of a lot of 90s in this painting AND you made a pogs reference! I love the vibrant color choices too. Good luck!

robatjun responds:

Wow! I was just checking out your art. Of all the entries I've seen so far, yours is my favorite. I like how we both have a 90s theme but with a different approach. I love the lighting and depth of your painting! Good luck to you too! :D

I was actually just looking at this piece when I noticed you reviewed mine! Switching the deck with Cards Against Humanity is very clever and I I love the sense of warmth I'm getting from the colors. With the girl in the blue jacket, you've added more rosy tones to her face and I actually like that better than the original. Great rendering on the glass vodka bottle as well.

Good luck in the contest!

Flautist4ever responds:

Thank you so much!

Admittedly, Cards Against Humanity was the first thing that came to mind. I'm glad you like it though! I had a lot of fun picking the question card and deciding on the visible answer cards. I did try to keep them PG-13 or under for contest purposes though.

I'm especially happy you like how the colors came out and the rendering on the vodka bottle. Those two were the biggest learning experiences from working on this and I'm excited to apply the concepts from them to future pieces.

Good luck to you too!

I really love this one! It's such a clever idea. I love how one hand is holding the phone and the other is plugging it in.

Thank you!
